Check Certifications and Markings
PVC homopolymers should display the BIS Standard Mark (ISI), which is required by the QCO of India in order to meet the requirements of the IS 17658:2021 standard, including the K-value, density, and volatile content. Examine Physical Appearance and Finish

Each quality product is marked with the material type (uPVC, CPVC), pressure level, date of production and manufacturer code to trace. Order test certificates of BIS labs that confirm sieve analysis, conductivity and plasticizer absorption. Tradable suppliers will supply factory audit reports and compliance documents, which validates third-party inspection.
Perform Basic Durability Checks
Flex rigid samples easily- they do not crack at room temperature and this is an indication of impact strength. Sunlight or heat briefly, high-quality PVC does not warp or discolour, owing to UV stabilizers. In the case of pipes, tapping should be very light, no dull bang or crack unless there is a vacuum; hydrostatic proof tests should be twice the usual pressure. Smell: no chemical smell eliminates bad processing.
Evaluate Supplier and Warranty
Select BIS/FMCS-licensed vendors to make imports and records of audits. Performance data-driven 50 plus year warranty on pipes. Check online on recalls or complaints and give priority to those that have sustainable sourcing claims as verified by standards.
Red Flags to Avoid
Avoid unmarked, excessively cheap goods or those that do not pass a visual test, they most probably avoid volatile matter or conductivity tests. Be aware of inconsistent batching, or no lot codes, which violates retention rules. Compare with international standards such as ROHS on low heavy metals in electronics grade PVC.
